Microsoft Joins Hands with Linux Foundation

Microsoft Conjoins Linux Foundation As Platinum Member

Microsoft this week announced its association with Linux foundation as a Platinum Member, and has released set of cross platform tools that can be used by any developer on any platform to develop apps for Android, iOS and Windows platform. Microsoft has also welcomed Google to the independent .NET foundation, and also working with Samsung Electronics.

“Microsoft’s membership in the Linux Foundation will benefit customers through increased collaboration and innovation among a diverse ecosystem,” the company said in a statement. “The move is aimed to strengthen the company’s Azure cloud platform for building intelligent, cross-platform apps and services. These announcements are in line with Microsoft’s commitment to enable developers to achieve more and deliver unprecedented levels of innovation,” the statement added.

Microsoft also unveiled services that will make it easier for more developers to turn massive amounts of data into deeply personal, intelligent and predictive applications such as SQL Server 2016 Service Pack 1 availability and the availability of Azure Data Lake services. The company is working to provide the most complete platform for application innovation, spanning mobile and cloud.

Hybrid Deployments With Amazon’s Cloud Get A Boost

AWS Links With VMware For Hybrid Cloud Deployments

VMware and Amazon team up, giving Amazon fresh ammo in the cloud wars, while a new service helps move VMs. The partnership between AWS & VMware is focused on simplifying workload migration from on-premises hardware to the public cloud and back again using VMware’s vSphere management software.

This partnership will make it easier for businesses to try out hybrid cloud configurations with a single control plane that administrators are already familiar with from managing their current infrastructure.

Apps Built On iOS Are Three Times More Likely To Crash Compared To Android Apps

Failure Rate Of iOS Apps Is Higher Than Android

According to a report released by Blancco Technology Group, Apple is losing the app performance battle to Android with its iPhones and iPads failing at a rate of 62 percent worldwide, compared to the 47 percent failure rate of Android devices. With iOS and Android waged in a long term battle for smartphone market share every quarter, device performance can often play a role in shaping the final results. Pokémon GO has highlighted problems, with users spending a lot of time on the game. The app ranked as one of the most unstable iOS apps with five percent experiencing crashes.

“Our data suggests that the problems resulting from playing Pokémon GO were not only limited to iOS users,” says Richard Stiennon, chief strategy officer of Blancco Technology Group. “Battery charging ranked in the list of the top five performance issues plaguing Android devices in Q3 2016. Since users must keep both their device screen and GPS on in order to play the virtual reality game, both of these functions are known to drain the device’s battery charge”.

Newer iPhone and iPad models have struggled with higher failure rates, including iPhone 6 (accounting for 13 percent of iOS device failures), iPhone 6S (nine percent), iPhone 5S (nine percent) and iPad Air 2 (two percent). Apps crashed on 65 percent of iOS devices, which is nearly triple the rate of crashing apps on Android devices (25 percent).
