05 Jun 2015

This week’s tech news roundup features the growth in mobile payments market, Spark’s contribution to faster Big Data analytics and Apple’s WWDC June 8 kick-off.

Apple and Android Pay May Lead the Mobile Payments Market by 2019

Apple, Samsung, Google, Paypal and a host of other companies are increasing their expertise in the creation of mobile wallet payment mechanisms. Their focus is expected to make payments through phone more common in the time to come.

A Business Insider (BI) report recently forecasted that Android and Apple will emerge as leaders in mobile payments market expected to hit $800 billion by 2019. Some other key points made by the report are how companies like Apple and Google will largely be responsible for driving the number of mobile paying users. Apart from that, as the mobile payment users rise, competition will heat up and new entrants will also contribute to mobile payment adoption.

Spark- a Big Data Analytics Tool that Enables Faster Decision Making

Spark is an Open Source Big Data Analytics tool which is swiftly emerging as a strong contender among analytics tool providers. The decade old Hadoop based tool is driving its enterprise adoption in the Silicon Valley primarily due to the speed of analytics it offers. In the past, Hadoop stood for volume and now Spark stands for agility. The most important thing that Spark does is: quicker data processing due to the data being stored on memory as opposed to disks. This is considered as a crucial efficiency feature that Hadoop’s MapReduce processing engine does not address.

Next Big Wave of Technology Innovation in Apple WWDC 2015

Apple’s WWDC begins on June 8, 2015 in San Francisco, CA. This annual gathering brings together the company’s software partners along with new product launches. Here’s what we can expect from WWDC’15 : The new iOS 9 will be announced which will focus its efforts on stability and optimisation improvements rather than going all-out for new design and fancy new features. iOS 9 will support devices as old as the iPhone 4s, and that such devices may even see a speed boost back to the days of iOS 7. Another important update maybe regarding the roll-out of Apple Pay mobile payment services to Canada, Europe and China.
