Pew Research Center recently conducted a mobile user survey, which indicates that nearly two-thirds of smartphones users go online with their smartphones.
Majority of the US population uses smartphones, and cellular Internet as well. Pew Research Center recently conducted a mobile user survey with more than 2,250 adult participants in April and May of 2013. According to the survey, 63% of the adult US mobile phone owners use their smartphones to go online.
This percentage is double than that of cellphone Internet usage since the year 2009. The survey also indicates that mobile owners do not use Internet just for checking their emails and surfing the web; nearly 21% of smartphone owners have been found to use their devices for going online instead of their computers.
Aron Smith, senior researcher for Pew Research Center’s Internet Project, said in a statement that “A majority of the public now owns a smartphone, and mobile devices are playing an increasingly central role in the way Americans access online services and information. For many, such as younger adults and lower-income Americans, cellphones are often a primary device for accessing online content – a development that has particular relevance to companies and organizations seeking to reach these groups. ”
According to Pew’s estimation, nearly 91% of US population owns a cellphone, which was 55% in 2012 and 31% in 2009. And now, in 2013, we see majority of population going online with their smartphones itself. The groups that are found to access the Internet with their phones include urban residents (66%), college educated (74%), young adults ages 18-29 (85%), African-Americans (74%) and financially well-off (79%).
Though adult smartphone users are found to just go online with their devices, the people from the above mentioned groups have actually started using Internet from their smartphones. The percentage of old age smartphone owners using Internet on their smartphones has also gone up 25% from 2012.
This mobile user survey only shows how smartphones are slowly taking up a central position in every individual’s life. Enterprises and business owners are not lagging behind in adopting the trend too.
