When your compliance processes hinge on accurate, time-sensitive tax filings, manual inefficiencies aren’t just frustrating — they’re risky.
With rising data complexity and the need for standardization, one of our clients in the chemical industry was stuck with outdated systems. They were creating JSON files for GSTR-1, E-way Bill, and E-Invoice manually. Their reports didn’t offer real-time insights. Power Automate flows were clunky and unreliable. And their internal app was hard to use, making everyday tasks frustrating for business users.
That’s where Rishabh Software stepped in. We built a centralized tax compliance and reporting solution using Microsoft Power Platform. We automated the JSON generation, enhanced reporting with Power BI, refined their Power Automate flows, and created a simple canvas app to make complex data easier to understand.
We helped streamline their tax process, fix workflow issues, and simplify systems without disrupting business by deploying automated tax compliance software.
Project Overview
A leading chemical manufacturing company required a more efficient approach to managing tax compliance, reporting, and internal workflows. Their existing setup was holding them back, with manual JSON generation for GSTR-1, E-way Bill, and E-Invoice, outdated Power BI dashboards, and clunky Power Automate flows. They were seeking a low-code solution that could automate tasks, simplify data handling, and enhance the user experience without requiring an overhaul of their entire system.
Rishabh Software built a centralized, Power Platform-based tax compliance solution to automate tax filings, optimize workflows, and modernize reporting. We developed dynamic Power Automate flows, revamped Power BI dashboards for better visibility, and created a canvas app to make structured JSON data readable for non-technical users. Alongside UI enhancements in their model-driven app, the new setup improved process efficiency, reduced manual effort, and gave the business a scalable foundation for future compliance modules.
Challenges
- Manual tax filing processes slowed down compliance tasks and increased the chances of human error during GSTR-1, E-way Bill, and E-Invoice generation.
- Static and limited Power BI reports lacked real-time updates, drill-down capabilities, and actionable insights for finance and operations teams.
- Outdated Power Automate flows were cluttered with complex logic, causing delays, runtime failures, and inconsistent workflow execution.
- Unclear JSON data formats made it hard for non-technical users to review and validate critical information before submission.
- Poor user experience in internal apps, including missing delete confirmations and unintuitive UI, created friction in daily operations.
Solution
To move away from manual tax filing and broken workflows, the client needed more than a few quick fixes. They required a tax compliance automation solution that could clean up inefficiencies, automate compliance, and scale with their evolving needs. That’s where Rishabh Software came in. We didn’t just patch what was failing. We rebuilt their entire tax compliance and reporting setup using Microsoft Power Platform, step by step, module by module.
Every part of the solution was designed to solve a specific challenge. From automating GSTR1 and EInvoice generation to building real-time dashboards in Power BI, optimizing legacy flows, and simplifying JSON review for non-technical users, each piece worked together to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and make the system easier to use across teams. The result was a structured, low-code environment that could adapt quickly and grow with the business.
Adopted an agile, collaborative development approach
The project followed a fast-paced agile model. Tasks were distributed across a three-member development team based on module expertise. Each component was built, tested in-house, and validated directly with the client. This approach allowed for continuous feedback, faster iterations, and quick deployment, without requiring a separate QA or UAT phase.
Built dynamic JSON automation with Power Automate
The first step was to eliminate manual effort in generating GSTR-1, E-way Bill, and E-Invoice JSON files. We created new Power Automate flows that automatically retrieve data from Dataverse tables, such as Sales Invoice and Sales Items. These flows validated the inputs, structured them according to the government schema, and generated ready-to-submit JSON files. This made compliance filing faster, more accurate, and less dependent on finance teams manually formatting outputs.
Transformed static reports into real-time dashboards
The client’s Power BI setup was barely helping with day-to-day decisions. We redesigned their reports to include calculated fields, visual drill-downs, and dynamic filters. We added paginated reporting for compliance records and brought in real-time refresh capabilities. Now, teams could not only track sales and tax data instantly but also act on it without waiting for monthly summaries.
Cleaned up and optimized legacy Power Automate flows
The existing flows were overloaded with outdated logic, hard-coded conditions, and performance issues. We refactored them one by one by stripping away inefficiencies, modularizing logic using child flows, and setting up scheduled triggers where needed. As a result, workflows started running faster, handled more records, and stopped failing mid-process. No more second-guessing whether a flow ran or not.
Created a canvas app to visualize JSONs for business users
Not everyone understands nested JSON structures. Instead of training non-technical users to read raw files, we built a simple canvas app that displayed JSON data in a clean, list-style format. Users can easily review, validate, and approve tax data before submission, all within the app interface, without needing to call IT for help.
Improved internal app UX with safer UI controls
Inside the model-driven app, we added missing UX features that had been causing silent issues. Most importantly, we introduced a confirmation pop-up for delete actions to prevent accidental data loss. These small but essential UI enhancements reduced errors and made the app easier to trust and use on a daily basis.
Delivered everything using agile, module-wise delivery
Instead of holding back for a big bang release, we shipped updates to the tax compliance solution module by module. Each piece was tested with real client data and validated by business users before going live. This approach enabled quick feedback, minimal disruption, and measurable improvements with every rollout.
